Today we headed north up the Coromandel Peninsula to check out Whenuakura Island. It’s an island about 1/2 a mile off the coast with a collapsed blowhole that you can kayak right into. So we picked up our kayaks on the main beach and took off…

Luckily the weather and tides cooperated and we were able to paddle right in…

It’s a secret lagoon inside of the island. Coming and going, it was really pretty amazing…

It’s also a designated wildlife refuge and Maori sacred ground, so you are not allowed to step foot onto the rocks.

We stopped at another island on the way back (no special rocks), but it was pretty hard to top Donut Island!
