We stopped over in Waitomo for a visit to the Otoruo glowworm caves. They suited us up in dry suits (did not stay dry)…

gave us really cool helmets that kept falling over our eyes…

nifty white boots that were really hard to walk, climb, or swim in… especially when they filled up with water…

So we weren’t exactly sure what we signed up for, other than finding the glowworms. We quickly realized it was a bit more than what we planned for, when our guide took us on a hike out into the jungle (yes! wearing the boots!), and then pointed to a small hatch with a ladder and asked for a volunteer to go first. (Really! Remember that episode of “Lost”?)…. It was JUST like that!

but it was a lot of fun…

and we found lots of them!

We all made it back out of the cave to the other side, no smoke monsters … safe and sound!

A day to remember!
