Today we headed out for an overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound. Still part of Fiordland National Park, but much larger, so we decided to take extra time to experience it. We started out with picture perfect weather. To get to Doubtful Sound, we drove to a marina —> took a 45 minute ferry ride —>

an hour bus ride —>

…and then finally made it to our ship. Definitely worth the trip!

It was a “dry day” so we traded some blue skies for smaller water falls, but they were still amazing …

The captain said it was a “calm day”, so we cruised out to where the Tasman Sea meets Doubtful Sound and saw seals hanging on some rocks out who seemed to agree with the captain’s weather assessment (Glad we weren’t there on a rough day!)…

Tried going below to our cabin for a few minutes, but decided that was a bad idea…

We kept going and the weather changed AGAIN…. found a calm cove to stop in, and did some kayaking …

There was this little hotel in the cove that we stopped in… reachable only by boat or helicopter and it stays booked!…

We got back to the boat and the captain said we could jump in if we wanted to…. Hummm…

Seemed like a once in a lifetime kinda thing so why not? Thinking about it…

Going for it…

I was the first one in - and the first one out! It was SO COLD!!! Didn’t even bother to try and find the ladder. Not a real graceful exit!

Kinda took your breath away…

It turned cloudy again, so no dramatic sunset, but the evening was very peaceful…

The next morning was also very calm…

Didn’t get much sleep, but that was fine!

An amazing 24 hours that we will no “doubt” ever forget!
