We had 5 great days in Queenstown. It’s quite a bit busier here than our last stop in Te Anau. Our Airbnb had views that we couldn’t get enough of, so sunset (almost 10 PM) became our favorite time of day. From the first one, which was very dramatic….

To the last one, which was so calm and serene…

It’s a great area to explore,, and we had amazing weather except for one day which was a complete rain out. We took a drive up the shore of lake Wakatipu to a small town called Glenorchy where the road dead ends…

Parked the car and had an awesome hike …

We did a day trip on bikes that started out in a quaint old miner’s town called Arrowhead…

We went through some beautiful vineyards and farmlands. Of course we had to stop and do a few tastings along the way… REALLY good wine! Luckily we had a ride back and we could buy some wine!

Met some very cute farm animals who were bored enough not to mind having their picture taken…

There were a few suspension bridges along the way, that I was not super happy about having to cross on bikes… and they seemed to get progressively worse as we went along.

… but I felt like a real wimp when we got to the bridge that people were bungy jump from!

Queenstown’s claim to fame is “The adventure capital of the World”, and the world home of bungy jumping. There was a steady stream of folks lined up ready to give it try, and lots of spectators. Since I had second thoughts on just crossing the bridge, jumping off it voluntarily was never an option. This was as close as we got..…

Paragliding from Queenstown peak was another popular activity…

But we kept all feet on the ground and hiked up instead..

Queenstown is a beautiful town, and happy to say that we are leaving in one piece and no chiropractic adjustments needed. Next stop, Wanaka!
