Took a day trip from Sedona out to the Petrified Forest National Park and Painted Desert....
Had a picnic lunch overlooking the park at The Painted Desert Inn landmark site...
The colors are hard to describe, and the pictures really don't do them justice...
Like artwork really...
They say it is one of the least visited National Parks because it is off the beaten path a bit... Can confirm that... and once again we seemed to have the park almost to ourselves!
An old section of iconic Route 66 actually runs through the park...
On our way back to Sedona we crossed through a town with lots of Route 66 history...
Tom said he needed a haircut, so I suggested we could stop in here and then grab a bite to eat ...
and stay over at The Wigwam Motel....
but decided to head back to Sedona instead :)Awesome day!
