We made it to Port Douglas a few days ago and have been enjoying hanging out at the Airbnb and exploring the town a bit. Al and Kara got in on Monday night so we had fun catching up with them and hearing all about their travels in New Zealand and Tasmania.

Our first big adventure together was out to The Great Barrier Reef, and it was amazing! Al found the best outfitter - there were only a dozen or so people that went out with us…

We headed for the outer reef, so it took us an hour so to get there. We got suited up in “stinger suits”…

Al decided to dive, so he avoided the jellies since they were on the surface…

We were supposed to be at the end of “stinger season”, but it turned out that they had a bloom of Blue Bottle Jellies (very similar to Portuguese Man-O-War) so the suits were definitely necessary. They work … except around your face mask… so the snorkelers all got stung on anything that wasn’t covered (Tom got it the worst) - but it was still an amazing day! The coral was beautiful and we had great visability (but somehow did not spot the blue bottles until it was too late!) 😬

No underwater cameras this time, but memories will last!
