We left the South island yesterday on the ferry and headed across The Cook Strait…

… and landed in Wellington on the north island…

Definitely a big change after the natural beauty of the national parks and Marlborough Sound on the South Island. Took the cable car up above the city to check out the botanical gardens…

We stayed in a really cool urban loft style apartment that used to be an old shoe factory. It had a very questionable elevator - we “experienced it” once, and opted for the stairs the rest of the time! Definitely no inspection certificates inside…

Just a short stopover…. heading to Lake Taupo today to spend the holidays. Looking forward to kicking back a bit and checking out the North Island!
